Enemy Tanks on Port Grounds.

Russian tanks were operating in the port area. The defenders were holding on to supplies from Azovstal works, delivered by sea boats.

On April 7, the port defense was set up along the line of second entrances. Two enemy tanks with a group of infantry advanced. One of the tanks drove over a concrete block and got stuck near the Tsarevna ship, and the second was driving along the pier by the control tower. We managed to damage the tank that got stuck and its crew fled. We fired twice from the MATADOR (man-portable, anti-tank, anti-door system) and six to eight rounds from the RPG grenade launcher but could not finish it off.

Its engine ran all night, and in the morning, Russian infantry supported by another tank tried to tow it away. They tried to throw a rope but we fired a couple of shots at the tank-evacuator, and they immediately retreated. Finally, a new tank drove up to the pier by Gate No. 3 and destroyed that unfortunate vehicle. They were afraid we would capture it and therefore destroyed it.

At the same time, sailors of the 23rd Marine Guard Detachment continued to use boats – ones with hard bottoms and inflatable sides – to go back and forth between the Azov Ship Repair Plant near the port and Azovstal. They transported the wounded from the port to Azovstal and vice versa, carrying reinforcements and ammunition. The route was more than five kilometers, and some Russian units had already begun occupying the high shore of the Central District. On April 7, one of the boats sank, presumably hit by an anti-tank missile. It was commanded by Chief Warrant Officer Mykola “Mekh” Pichakhchi of the 23rd Marine Guard Detachment. Azov fighters were on board with him.

On the other side of the blockade

The Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated Kyiv Oblast. In early April, the events in Mariupol faded in the information field. The media's attention was focused on the atrocities committed by the Russian army in Bucha, Irpin, Borodyanka, Hostomel, Yahidne, etc.

On April 7, Volodymyr Zelenskyi appealed to the Greek parliament with a request to launch a humanitarian mission to rescue the Mariupol residents, as about 22,000 ethnic Greeks lived in the city. Nikos Dendias, Greek Foreign Minister, responded that Greece would sue the International Criminal Court regarding war crimes committed by Russians in Mariupol.
